Abstract submission for EECA INTERACT 2022 is closed. We have received a lot of interesting abstracts from different countries and we are happy to share that the review process has started. Members of the International Scientific Committee will carefully review the abstracts in the coming period. We will come back with the results after 31 October.

EECA INTERACT 2022 is the third scientific workshop on HIV, Hepatitis C and Tuberculosis in Eastern and Central Europe.
EECA INTERACT 2022 will be held in Riga, Latvia, on December 13-14. EECA INTERACT is a research workshop that brings together scientists, clinicians, policymakers, and civil society from the region to debate topics facing individual countries while building capacity and strengthening research and clinical networks.
This year we are expanding EECA INTERACT to include the Baltics, the Balkans, and several countries in Central Europe.
We encourage researchers from Eastern Europe and Central Asia, the Baltics, the Balkans, and several countries in Central Europe to submit abstracts for peer review.
The organisers are AFEW International and Amsterdam Institute of Global Health & Development (AIGHD), assisted by an International Scientific Committee.

EECA INTERACT 2021 is finished!
On November 11, the second scientific workshop on HIV, Hepatitis C and Tuberculosis in Eastern Europe and Central Asia – EECA INTERACT 2021 – was held online.
The programme of EECA INTERACT 2021 is finally out!
This year’s live virtual event will serve as a preliminary workshop to the 2022 symposium, which we hope will be a face-to-face event, and will consist of three one-hour panels focusing on:
Integration of HIV, TB, and overdose prevention services;
Surveillance focused on data collection, validation, and analysis;
Impact of COVID-19 on health care services.
The virtual EECA INTERACT workshop will be facilitated by Scientific Co-Chairs Prof. MD Cate Hankins and Prof. MD Michel Kazatchkine, with each individual panel presided over by guest regional experts.
The panellists will be young investigators, epidemiologists, members of civil society and other specialists from the region. In addition to presentations, the programme will feature a moderated discussion between panel speakers and the audience. Real-time interpretation will be provided during the event.

The first EECA INTERACT workshop, hosted in Almaty, Kazakhstan in 2019, brought together clinicians, policy makers and civil society representatives from the Eastern Europe and Central Asia (EECA) region to share knowledge about the epidemiology, treatment, pathogenesis and prevention of HIV, tuberculosis, hepatitis C virus, and harm reduction initiatives. Over the two days, attendees focused on the particularities of the EECA region in regards to these epidemics, and how each disease can be addressed in the coming future.

Center for Health Policies and Studies (PAS Center) is announcing an open Call for Proposals for small grants within the multicountry Program “Advancing People-Centered Quality TB Care – From the New Model of Care Towards Improving DR-TB Early Detection and Treatment Outcomes”.
PAS Center is inviting interested civil society organizations and their consortiums in Armenia and Kazakhstan to apply for the call for requesting small grants:
1. Small grant for CSO: Address legal, gender, stigma and human rights-related barriers in the TB response to improve timely access of key populations to TB care cascade and contribute to strengthening the approaches in TB care for treatment adherence and better treatment outcomes in Armenia

The Call for Proposals is announced under the multicountry Program “Advancing People-Centered Quality TB Care – From the New Model of Care Towards Improving DR-TB Early Detection and Treatment Outcomes”, operating in Eastern Europe and Central Asia (EECA), funded by Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria and implemented by Center PAS as Principal Recipient.
The competition will support country-level civil society organizations, including TB affected communities’ organizations, (hereinafter referred to as CSO) from the above mentioned 2 countries, whose initiatives are aimed at helping to reduce stigma and discrimination of people who have experienced tuberculosis as a barrier to access and use of health and social care services, or implementing community-based innovative tools.

Cate Hankins, a Professor of Public and Population Health at McGill University, Deputy Director (Science) at #AIGHD, ex board member of AFEW International and co-chair of the scientific workshop EECA INTERACT is a part of the Canadian expert team to do research on the Corona virus in Canada.
The Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, announced more than $1 billion in support of a national medical research strategy to fight COVID-19 that includes vaccine development, the production of treatments, and tracking of the virus.
The Government of Canada will invest in new medical countermeasures to better understand COVID-19, and develop the infrastructure needed to fight the virus in Canada.
Cate Hankins will be co-chairing the COVID-19 Immunity Task Force operated under the direction of a leadership group. The group also includes Dr. David Naylor, President of the University of Toronto; Dr. Tim Evans, the Director of the School of Population and Global Health at McGill University; Dr. Theresa Tam, Canada’s Chief Public Health Officer, and Dr. Mona Nemer, the Chief Science Advisor to Canada’s Prime Minister, Minister of Science, and Cabinet. The task force will establish priorities and oversee the coordination of a series of country-wide blood test surveys that will show how widely the virus has spread in Canada and provide reliable estimates of potential immunity and vulnerabilities in Canadian populations.
